About the Author
Frann Preston-Gannon is a UK-based illustrator and author. Her varied clients have included The Sunday Times and Burt's Bees. Her first book, The Journey Home, was published in October 2011 and has so far been shortlisted for four separate book awards including the Waterstone's Children's Prize. She has two other titles currently published in the UK, Dinosaur Farm and How to Lose a Lemur, which are to be published by Sterling in the US. She was the UK's first ever Sendak Fellowship recipient, which sent her to work in residence with Maurice Sendak on his estate in Connecticut before his death in 2012.

I found this randomly on Amazon while looking at some other kids books (Hello, my name is Sam, and I am addicted to books for both me AND my son. *waves*). I am a big time dog lover and this looked cute!It met and exceeded my expectations! The text are moderately simple examples of opposites, using dachshunds and some other animal friends. But it isn't just "Hot" - "Cold" for the majority. There is a "Hide and Go Seek Dog," for instance. The book has a good rhythm that has my son (3.5) "reading" along with me often. The words are also simple enough that I think this would make a good beginning reader book.My favorite thing about this is the illustrations - I think good art in a kids' picture book is incredibly important since most kids are being read to rather than reading themselves. :) The illustrations are colorful and really bring out the meaning of the words, like "Cold Dog" is in the snow, wearing a hat and scarf, with a mug of hot drink in front of him.Which brings me to something else I love: in almost every scene, there is a mug and a dog bone. Often, there is also at least one bunny, too. My son has loved finding the bone and "cup of tea" since he was about 2. I think his favorite is the page where the "tea" is knocked over and spilling.Overall, this is a seriously cute picture book with wonderful re-readability (also important since any parent is likely to be reading the same book over... and over... and over... and over).
Maybe its the way my husband reads this book, but this story leaves my daughter in stitches from all the laughter. She wants to read it again and again and again! The board book is large and hefty with glossy pages, big text, and charming illustrations of some very clever and funny puppies.
This book has been a favorite for over two years in our house! My toddler can even read along with it now. I love that the size is more substantial than other board books which makes the pictures really large and fun. The designs are beautiful and simple, the illustrations do not seem cluttered on the page. It's just a fun, rhyming book with a cute little story. Great addition to a toddler's bookshelf!
ADORABLE kids book. We bought it for our daughter because we have two dachshunds and I have a slight dachshund obsession. It's so fun to read! Plus there's a coffee cup on every page which makes it so cute!
This book is so cute! I bought it for my grandchildren and they have really enjoyed the story and the pictures. We have a precious long haired dachshund so of course we loved this children's book!
Illustrations in this board book are top notch and engaging. The rhythm of the text is inviting and captivating. Sure to be a book that will be a favorite of any little one who is fascinated with the natural world and dogs in particular. Can well imagine this book bringing giggles to both reader and listener. Who could ask for more?
After being disappointed by a number of other dog-themed children's books, I'm very glad to have found this one. It has colorful and interesting illustrations and is a fun read. Excellent character development. A must-read!
Our niece absolutely LOVED this book from the minute she opened it on Christmas! The illustrations are charming and the writing is engaging. She's two and started memorizing it right away. Great book!
