This short new book by Meunier, a hybrid indie manifesto and how-to guide, features one core argument: the publishing industry is changing and it’s okay to write and publish “short†Kindle books. At about 20,000 words, it’s no coincidence that this book is its own case in point. Told in Meunier’s usual approachable voice, he lays out his argument neatly and with unrelenting passion and encouragement to the reader. I’ve definitely read much longer books that conveyed a lot less information. This book is both an argument for and one of the best examples of the right way to write a short kindle book. If you are at all considering writing for Kindle, you should absolutely read this book.
From Game Journalism to self-publishing, Nathan Meunier has proven himself to be someone who genuinely wants to help others through his writing.WSKB is exactly what it says: a self-publishing manifesto for non-fiction writers. Fiction writers may find some tidbits useful, but those looking to self-publish not using Amazon are out of luck as the material in the book is almost seems like an advertisement at times. The pacing was a bit inconsist as well. The first 1/3 of the book felt like it was repeating the merits of self-publishing. For this first part, the book seems torn between persuading publishing house authors to self-publish or treating the reader like they're new to writing. Either way, when I read it I was never the demographic. So why did I enjoy reading it?Because the book is written so well. And that is not an understatement. Nathan Meunier has a great voice to his writing that is concise, conversational, and peppered with just enough humor to be entertaining but not fatiguing. He also deploys facts and life experiences that help give this book weight. If you're looking to get into the kindle market place then WSKB is a great launch point to start. As a short book itself, it shouldn't take more than an afternoon to read, and the information (and potential profit) is well worth the price of admission.
I am new to writing, but have read some other material. I feel that this book rightly deals with the changes in the book publishing industry today. Everything is changing rapidly with the advancment of technology. Just as it should. This book helped me tremendously in the way that I was stressed because other information I read all seemed.to hold the idea that I needed 50,000 words. I knew where I wanted to end book and also knew.I did not want to water down my story with a bunch of rubbish too. I knew I could.write a longer version of same story but did not desire to go into some of those areas.as yet. Then I picked.up this book. All.of a sudden I realise I had written too.much. Basically I am done with my book. I just need to.stand down as this author suggested, and then start proof readIing my book, then publish. I have ideas and a.plan and am.about to start implem3nting ideas soon. I thank this auther.. William McCabe
Nathan Meunier explains why authors should write short kindle books, how to price them, how to write them quickly and how to optimize them for online sales.I was aware of many of the strategies mentioned prior to reading this book and I'd like to confirm that they do work. What I found particularly useful was chapter 4 on six common types of short kindle books you can write. I will be reading this one again. In this digital era self-published authors have such a huge advantage over traditionally published authors, since they have all the control as far as both content and promotion are concerned. This book will show you how to leverage this advantage.Alinka Rutkowska, author of HOW I SOLD 80,000 BOOKS: Book Marketing for Authors (Self Publishing through Amazon and Other Retailers)
I seldom give low scores for Amazon books because I'm also an author and journalist of 20 years with books listed on numerous sites, including Amazon, and know what it feels like to get an occasional low review - yet at times and in this case it's justified.. I bought this eBook because of the excellent reviews and if other readers could have been a little more forthcoming in their reviews, I would have purchased something else and saved a few hours of my time on this Sunday afternoon. The first few chapters are excellent and give very good advice on the possibilities available for those that want to experiment writing short Kindle books – spot on. After that however this small book falls apart, and the author regresses, devoting the rest of the book detailing the writing process and at times in such basic terms that it's tedious for anybody with professional writing experience. For example, he writes "Unplug for everything" and devote a couple of hours to work on your book…Do we really need to be told that?He also writes "It's tempting to run a quick spell check, give it a read-through, make a few quick changes, and call it day..." Again, do we really need to receive advice on the basics of spell checks and when to stop the writing process? I think not... If you want basic writing advice, there are a plethora of books available by recognized authors and experts on the subject… both short and longer treatments.I surmise that in trying to reach a certain word length for this work, the author wrote out in detail every small aspect of the writing process that he uses; in fact this is the tool he describes as “dumping†to get it all out of your head on paper. However, dumping it all out and writing it up does not necessarily equal a quality piece of writing or book.
