Hard to write about, but excellent work
I found this book very helpful and will become a member of the Final Exit group. I recommend the book to anyone who has questions and fears concerning death and how to gain control of your own living and dying. Because of this book I will live longer because I know there is a fast and painless way out when I'm ready.
Dispassionate and intelligent discussion of end-life choices. Here's a hard fact: pain meds often don't work. Doctors often will do horrific procedures to keep patients alive. I read this because I live with chronic pain and narcotics and barbiturates are of little help. I worry what might happen if the pain becomes unbearable. This book eased my mind. Please note: The author recommends readers exhaust every remedy before making any choices, as well as talking with family members. A brave and cautious author.
I bought this book in 2018. This is outdated. The easiest & painless method is by hellium, but the book is wrong. You need 100% helium in the tank in order for it to be effective. Every party store & even gas companies are now putting 20% oxygen & 80% helium so that a peaceful death WONT WORK. This happenned in 2015. You cannot even get it online, other than buying an empty tank at lowes. Second, you cannot even get the drugs needed here in the US to make a peaceful death possible. You would be better off moving to Oregon where dying with dignity is legal. Or, since there is so many school shootings in the US lately, go visit one of them. Your luck of getting a “final exit†might be better there.
Everyone should own this book as it has the easy way to get out of life before terrible pain or the rest home takes your every penny. I'm ready now should I ever need it.
A quick two day read, which incredibly enhances your personal freedom, to the point of having the ultimate: -freedom from life, when this becomes intolerable, -giving you real, less terrifying options, to depart without last minute suffering and leaving an embarrassing mess behind. Following advice in this book, you could almost "exit" and being proud of this last act. I felt great peace after reading it, and slept that night like a baby, or should I say like the dead, unlike most of the last few months. This book is excellent for the anxious ones among us, as it is so short, although a bit too short on variety of "recommended" techniques. I would like the section on suicide from exposure expanded, as it contains risks, but also permits a lonesome exit within natural settings and by natural means (cold). One of my ten favourite books, not due to being good read, but due to its topic. Thank you very much, Mr Humphry.
Not a lot on new information for me. I disagree with his premise that only people with incurable physical diseases are allowed to end their lives. Perpetuates the notion that psychiatric disorders and mood disorders are easily treatable.
this book offers practical ways of killing yourself, the problem with most of the methods it suggests is that you need medications that you can only get with a prescription...
The most important book I've read. I will no longer have panic attacks about whether or when I can end my life. If it's important you control the end of your life, this easy to read and understand book will give you much relief.
